History
Minnesota Lakes Insurance traces its roots back to 1995, when Paul Olson founded Liggett Companies after 20 successful years with Horace Mann Insurance. Inspired by his experience and driven by a desire to offer clients more choices and better service, Paul made the leap to create an independent insurance agency focused on personalized solutions.
In 2009, Paul’s eldest son, Micah Olson, joined the agency as an independent agent and partner. It quickly became clear that Paul and Micah shared the same commitment to helping people protect what matters most. In 2013, the agency underwent a rebranding to become Minnesota Lakes Insurance, a name reflecting its dedication to the communities it serves.
Micah assumed full ownership of Minnesota Lakes Insurance in December 2018, and under his leadership, the agency continues to thrive. Now based in Maple Grove, MN, the agency operates out of a modern brick-and-mortar location near the 94/494 interchange.
Minnesota Lakes Insurance proudly serves clients across Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Arizona. With a diverse client base, the agency has strong connections throughout Minnesota and an expanding presence in other states.
Meet the Team
Micah Olson
Owner/Agent
Micah Olson is the owner and an agent at Minnesota Lakes Insurance. Micah began his career with the agency in 2009 and fully took ownership in December 2018. His favorite part of the business is building relationships with people and providing personalized insurance solutions that meet their unique needs.
When he isn’t working, Micah enjoys spending time with his wife, Jen, and their two children, Max and Isla. The Olson family lives in Plymouth, Minnesota, where they stay busy with sports, school, and family activities. Micah is passionate about the outdoors and spends much of his free time fishing, and hunting. He’s also an avid golfer who enjoys a good round whenever he gets the chance. The family’s cabin on Boy Lake is one of Micah’s favorite places to unwind and connect with nature.
With over a decade of experience, Micah takes pride in serving his clients with integrity, expertise, and a commitment to finding the right balance of coverage and cost.
Jesse Ziesel
Account Manager
Jesse Ziesel is an Account Manager at Minnesota Lakes Insurance. Originally from St. Louis Park, MN, he graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2020 with a degree in Economics. Jesse joined Minnesota Lakes Insurance in 2021 and has since become a key member of the team.
With a deep understanding of personal lines insurance, Jesse is passionate about helping clients navigate their coverage options. He prides himself on being a clear communicator and delivering the highest level of service. Whether he’s assisting existing clients or providing fresh advice to those exploring new options, Jesse is dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes.
Jesse is proud to call Maple Grove home, where he owns a condo and enjoys being part of the community. Outside of the office, he follows Minnesota sports—both college and professional—and loves exploring great restaurants and hiking in the outdoors.
